I had no interest in Fallen Angels and it was amazing. X Men was great too. I hate the art though

The reactions I've seen to Fallen Angels have been, "It was great," or, "This is an affront to humanity and it has ruined my life."

I think I can say with certainty that I've never hated an incarnation of Kitty Pryde before this point. Things like with Guggenheim got an "eh" from me (except the stuff with Piotr, but that was so out of character I couldn't take it seriously). But, wow, Duggan really managed to fuck the character up really, really fierce with this.
I'm sorry if that offends people who like her portrayal now, but this ain't Kitty Pryde. This is pretty much the same as Ryan Johnson did with Luke Skywalker. So, yeah, people can happily call her Kate, because she ain't the character I know under her real name.

As long as Star Wars just came up, I felt what Rian Johnson did with Luke was good. As a hero character, he was presented as a return of the Jedi - and the concept of Jedi entails rules, tenets, etc. Last Jedi operated with his character by demonstrating how trying to stick to those Jedi teachings held back his true heroic spirit; once he left those teachings behind, he ascended.

Yeah, that's totally bunk. The movie demonstrated exactly zero of that. What it "demonstrated" is that the man who believed in his core that he could redeem one of the worst monsters in the history of the galaxy and actually managed to do so, thereby saving the entire galaxy from decades of oppression, would then consider for a nanosecond murdering his teenage nephew in his sleep, due to "something-something influence of the dark side". And THEN that character would crawl into a hole and leave the entire galaxy to burn. What a fucking character assassination of monumental scale. Fuck. That. Shit.
Where exactly in that idiotic plotline was Luke's "heroic spirit" held back by "those Jedi teachings"?
God, just having to list the giant amount of terrible writing Rian Johnson did with Luke's character made me pissed all over at TLJ again. Ugggghhhh...

The "try to murder his nephew" part is something I forgot - maybe because my brain didn't want to acknowledge it. Putting more thought into that portion, I agree on Luke trying to kill Kylo being wrong and entirely OOC for him.
I'm reminded as I write this of how fans of things I complained about would often try to excuse such issues as "Well that's just the way it had to go." But reality is, there are alternatives. The dark side turn for Kylo could've come from pushing him too hard, or expecting more from him, or staying too locked into the way the Jedi teachings laid things out and not tailoring his instruction to the student. Didn't need to be "Luke feels compelled to kill because reasons." So that's one black mark on the story, but I think if that were changed to something more reasonable then it would've been fine. And I can actually empathize with the "crawl into a hole" mentality for a hero; when your goal is to try to help people, and you think you just made things a whole lot worse, it's easy to feel that maybe being involved would only add to the problem.
Anyway I'll try not to say much more on this here because it's not the thread's purpose.

To not completely derail the thread, I'll also bow out of this particular topic. But as a short closing statement: We gotta deal with what actually happened in the movie, instead of making up hypothetical scenarios that it could have worked if done in a different way.

I mean, it's DoX, it's never really matched the hype people have been placing on it.
Also, I'm not as concerned about saying that here now because this board is dead anyway.

Yea comparing a tightly put together weekly story by one creative team to a bunch of ongoing series by different creators kinda misses the point.
Now was HoXPoX a more satisfying read? Yea I agree but then would we rather have one weekly book then a whole line of books? Main problem is loads of characters will be left in the background and fans already bitchy enough abt their faves not being shown proper respect or whatever.
Anyway 4 pages of Incoming was more exciting then everything that came out since PoX #6 lets gooooo.

Last issue was astonishing. To think that whole discussion got published in major american comic, and in X-book makes me love it more.
The more Hick story unravels, the more I remember how badly I wanted this craftmanship in Utopia era. It also waves Morrison, Carey and Vaughn themes and bits into nicely shaped whole.
