Fucking terrified of what the real numbers in the midwest will look like. Lol, I don't think about that place. Though last I heard, Dems picked up the Governor's house in Illinois, which means Dems control every bit of state government in Illinois (aka home of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs) And I haven't heard anything about Georgia. I know they're keeping some of the polls open until 10 PM thanks to late breaking court orders. It's fucking crazy that they're saying both big FL races are too close to call with 98% of the vote in

Georgia has been called for Kemp afaik. Who called it? I haven't heard anything yet, just Kemp way ahead Edit: yeah, looks like the big counties that contain Atlanta/Atlanta suburbs aren't all counted yet. Once they are, that's the game. Stacy Abrams either got enough out of there to overcome the rest of the state and voter suppression, or she didn't. It's why they're still saying FL is too close to call with the Republicans ahead and 99% of the vote in. Broward county either over performed to compensate, or it didn't.

Looking good for the Dems to take the Senate.
Edit Yikes! Sorry! I meant the House. If they take the Senate I'll piss my pants that's so unlikely.

Good news for Kris Kobach. He lost the Kansas (!) gubernatorial race so he now has all the time in the world to investigate voter fraud.

Very surprised about Staten Island's district swinging blue as hard as it did. They're usually very very red. The reddest spot in NYC (not counting Long Island). And I'm personally happy Elaine Luria won her district in VA considering I've been seeing her ads (and attack ads against her) every single second of every day for 2 months. She'd been polling behind the republican, so it wasn't a sure thing.

In terms of raw votes, this is the biggest House wave in decades (only in 2008 did a party win by higher margins).
But because of gerrymandering Democrats will only get a slim majority.

I'm hoping the Governor's races can help fix that. But the judiciary was/is just as important in terms of curbing gerrymandering. Also, just heard that with 75% of the vote in in Georgia they're saying it's still too early to call between Stacy Abrams and Kemp. 99% of the vote in in Florida and they still haven't called either race. FL wants me dead I swear Edit: FL voted to ban offshore drilling! This is why I can't quit you!

It's time to go into the Wisconsin diners and interview the 200k voters who voted for both Tammy Baldwin and Scott Walker

Both Ways and Means and the Oversight Committee will be chaired by black people.
The good news is that Donald Trump is a totally clean, totally not-racist president so I'm sure this won't lead to 3 AM twitter screeds.

I don't know what you guys have and haven't seen, so here's the take: tonight was a massive success for Democrats. My Twitter feed is full of news. Here's what I've picked up.
Kris Kobach is OUT Kim Davis (the asshole clerk that wouldn't issue gay marriage licenses) is OUT North Carolina judge elected as Dem, vital for dealing with gerrymandering there Ex-felons in Florida regained the right to vote Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won and is the youngest Representative to serve (this isn't a shocker, but her win is essential for the future) Muslim women were elected to Congress for first time ever Democrats, mainly women, are flipping House seats all over the place Governorships are flipping Democrat
And most importantly, all signs point to Democrats holding majority in the House. They've already announced intent to investigate Trump's tax returns.
People hurt by today's result were expecting for Gillum, Beto and Abrams to win. And in a fair system, all of them would have. But the system has been rigged like mad by Republicans. The fact we got as much as we did IS the victory, because it's the first step needed toward fixing what Republicans have done to this country.
With Gillum, ex-felons getting to vote again is key. Florida is going to be saved the next go-around.

The biggest problem is that the GOP will have a 2020 proof majority in the Senate.

Winning the Senate was always a long shot. And I think the Senate map looks really good for the Dems in 2020, even before considering it will be a Presidential election year. Staggered six-year terms and all that. salarta I'm trying to remember the good. Even though FL continues to hurt me, passing the amendments to restore the right to vote to 1.5 million people and to ban offshore drilling are important wins. Michigan legalized marijuana and will now have an independent body to draw districts, meaning the voters have gotten rid of gerrymandering in that state. And not only did NC Republican's court packing plans backfire and lost them the state supreme court, they also lost their supermajority in the state legislature. And yeah, the Dems will definitely win the House by a good margin. Mathematically, the blue wave did happen and it will lead to concrete changes. But it's extremely frustrating that even with all that effort, the GOP picked up Senate seats, none of the high profile races panned out, and for the third time in a row that fucking ghoul Rick Scott won a statewide election. For the life of me I don't know who keeps voting for him. I'm trying to not let perfect be the enemy of the good enough. Nationally I guess things went ok, but the races I voted in and the ones I was personally invested in? Not so much.
