Damn, this really slowed down in the last few episodes. I don't think I needed a full recap of the conversation with Melanie back in episode one.

just finished ep9, this was the one I really didnt care for so far. Does the show puts too much emphasis on style over substance or is it just me? Im having a hard time pinning down what exactly each character's personality is supposed to be, except for the obvious Lenny/Oliver/Farouk....

It's not just you. In today's world of visually boring and monochromatic tv shows, I say pander to me. Give me gonzo pseudo cute intellectual style, when storytelling isn't coming off strong.
Last ep I've watched was other lives of David... felt like a drag watching it. But as far as I can tell, I think David's s2 theme is violence is not the answer, since King called him on it.

Im having a hard time pinning down what exactly each character's personality is supposed to be, except for the obvious Lenny/Oliver/Farouk.... I just had this exact same convo with my mother on the phone. We were talking about the last few episodes and I was specifically going on about how I didn't understand the minotaur, or how psychic powers give you a minotaur, and was that minotaur waiting for Farouk in the desert this whole time or did he make it, etc. I told her my biggest fear with this season is unlike S1 they're not really building to anything with all the surreal shit, they're just doing it to do it. She answered that if I'd watched Hannibal I'd know better. She said whenever they do something weird, she remembers this is the same team behind Hannibal, so it's very likely they just put a weird monster in there just because they wanted one. Style over substance. Anyway, I didn't like the S2 finale as much as the S1 finale, but I didn't dislike it. It toed the line. Almost went over the edge. But they pulled it together when they brought up {Spoiler} that Dave really did psychically date rape Syd. So yeah, Dave isn't great. But that still doesn't excuse freeing Farouk. I'm really surprised that in that entire scene, Dave never asked why Farouk was free and no one offered to explain it. I mean, the obvious explanation is Farouk is controlling/influencing everyone. But then it seems like the show was trying to make a point that Dave might not be all there, so...
The mouse thing was ridiculous. I thought he was going to get the mouse to chew through his head thing. Having it deliver a message to sleeping Syd is silly. Mice can't whisper human words to people. Even it did what Farouk told it to do, all Syd should hear is, "squeak squeak squeak!" I feel bad for Lenny in all this. The show has gone back and forth with playinger her (real her, not Farouk-version) as a "quirky" junky, or as a junky who is also not right in the head. Some scenes in the finale made me question how aware of everything she is?

You should tell your mom Legion was made by the people behind Fargo and the Hannibal people made American Gods.

+ Id say Hannibal does a better job of defining its characters and giving them depth imo. Ive caught myself daydreaming about future Legion seasons and after Wanda I want Age of Apocalypse and Decimation to be adaptated. Never going to happenn but.

I'm on episode 9 and like smartphone culture tying into Plato's cave/nature of reality question. Just wonderful.

Just finished the season. I'd say the season was probably 2-3 episodes too long with some filler in the later episodes. They elongated the season twice, but it just loosened the focus. The ending was unexpected. They will have to explain the irredeemable thing that happened had to be done by an evil personality unbeknownst to actual David, or he's just villain from here out. Even the. It'll be pretty tricky.

I know I'm super late to this party, but I didn't watch the second season until now and I need to vent.
All in all I thought it was pretty exciting and there were some good moments, but it wasn't nearly as good as Season 1. The big creepy mystery about what was wrong with David was a core part of the story in Season 1, and I feel like it wasn't adequately replaced in Season 2. The fact that David was the secret villain that destroys the future was super easy to figure out from the first time Future Syd mentioned it, and the Shadow King being the primary villain of Season 2 as well didn't feel as great as it did last season, even if the new actor did a pretty good job of it.
I really didn't like the Lenny subplot, and it was obvious that it was just written in because Aubrey Plaza was a break-out star last season. The character of Lenny isn't all that interesting, and setting her up as a love interest for Evil David feels really blech. Her being stuck in Amy's body is interesting in a morbid kind of way, but it really isn't worth much. I'd have preferred if she just continued being how the Shadow King chose to manifest himself rather than having her be a completely separate individual.
Ptonomy dying felt really off-handed and like a waste of the character. It came out of left field and wasn't really dealt with, which is a shame because I really liked him. I guess the door was left open for him to return next season in some capacity as part of the machine, but it was still not a great way to handle the character.
I'm happy that they decided to go with David actually being insane on top of the Shadow King being in his head, and having MPSD, but I feel like the other characters turning against him in the end really came out of left field. I feel like the secrets he kept from them made sense and the whole "deep down he secretly enjoys hurting people" didn't feel enough to warrant that reaction. Conversely, while I feel like David manipulating Syd's mind and then having sex with her was a good way to show him crossing the moral event horizon, I feel like it wasn't built up sufficiently. One scene of him confessing that torturing Oliver when he thought he was the Shadow King felt good didn't feel like enough for him to turn. What really made no sense was Divison 3 giving the Shadow King free reign of the facilities for the trial of David. Like, whatever David is, the Shadow King is clearly, way, way more dangerous right now.
All in all, it wasn't bad, but it definitely lacked the excitement and wonder of the first season. I guess you could say that that's only because the show was new then, but the problem isn't really that the show is repeating itself, just that the story this time around wasn't nearly as solid.

Legion's real mom and dad will be played by Joanna Wellick and Viserys Targaryen.
