Claremont is the protoWhedon in that he writes compelling multidimensional female characters but its always done thru the lens of what he finds pleasing. So yeah there were lots of display of female empowerement but it was peppered with instants of degradation, humiliation, violation. Not to mention constant fetishization of women of colors. So yea I love CC as much as the next guy but I can see how that can be a turnoff.

Yeah, as a Polaris fan I'm gonna say screw Claremont. He did a lot of things people generally like, but he bent over backwards to ruin her and tear her apart in such a way that she still hasn't recovered and may never.
If he was really as great as people claim he is, Claremont would have told the stories he wanted to tell in a way that either showed Lorna in a more sympathetic light or avoided screwing her over altogether. Instead he used her as a punching bag to build up Storm, Malice, Zaladane and various other characters he had a hard-on for.

Just to be clear, I'd heard of 'the human pet guy' on tumblr before. What was orders of magnitude worse than I imagined was his fetish including maiming.
And I'm bringing it up now, days later, because every time I close my eyes all I can think about is "humane" eye removal.

I don't get the point of the His Dark Materials teaser, there's nothing there but pensive looks and running and walking. Nothing for fans to get hyped about, nothing for people unfamiliar with the material to find intriguing.
Just wait until you have some decent CGI rendered or something.
