I really like the new Star Wars movies. I connected with The Force Awakens in a way I never have with any of the other previous movies. I never cared a lick about the franchise before that. My whole family went to see it in IMAX that Christmas. It was an amazing time. My mother cosplayed as a Twi'lek.

I loved TFA and it got me on a renewed Star Wars kick (that quickly puttered out because I have no attention span), but everything I've heard about TLJ made me not want to bother.

On the one hand we need to defend Star Wars because the alt right hates it. no we don't. TFA was a meek attempt at like updating the formula but at the same time it was very much a rehash of what came before. And TLJ was absolutely gross and validated Reylo shippers, racists, abusers, homophobes. It can perish honestly. I saw TFA trying to rehash, but I felt it was good. I always saw it as trying to recapture the original trilogy's magic, give new audiences a basic grounding in that understanding of the franchise, before future installments would veer into entirely new and interesting directions. Only thing I saw in TLJ of that list was the Reylo shippers part. I didn't see any of the rest. I will say it was really disappointing that Holdo died. But yeah, the Reylo shipper tropes present in the film are in the same vein as fanfics written by women of female characters in relationships with characters like Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers. The fantasy being that this dangerous, violent man can have a soft side the woman brings out. I felt the complaints about TLJ's usage of Luke missed that his situation really fit his past use. He was bound by the tenets of Jedi training instilled in him by Kenobi and Yoda, the existing infrastructure of what a Jedi is technically supposed to be, and lost his way on the actual Jedi spirit by adhering to those strict rules. His overcoming those rules allowed him to transcend his needlessly self-imposed limits and achieve true herodom. All that said, I still wouldn't encourage people to go see the films due to the Polaris situation at Marvel. I plan to watch Episode IX both to wrap up the trilogy and in support of Carrie Fisher, but that's it. |

I think I'm finally over Drag Race. I skimmed through a couple of episodes from the current season last week. Didn't care. Same problems as the past few seasons, more boring, somehow. Feel no desire to watch the show, or keep up with the fanbase.  RIP |
