Monday poll: Goosebumps Are you afraid of the dark? Or Tales from the crypt/cryptkeeper? Those are tonally different shows that ran at different times for different audiences? Also do you mean the Goosebumps books or the tv series based on the books? (Also, I have a long-standing personal trauma involving tales from the crypt, in that I was terrified of the cryptkeeper for my entire childhood. It is well trodden family lore. I had recurring nightmares about being locked in a room with HBO on, and the show starting, and me screaming for someone to let me out before the opening theme song got to the part when he came on tv. If you bring it up to my mother to this day she doubles over laughing that I was so terrified of that stupid puppet. One of my uncles developed a pitch perfect cryptkeeper laugh in the mid-90's solely to torment me.)

I've always been troubled by how utterly unprofessional comic book people are. Usually that level of dickishness comes with power and notoriety. I'd expect it from directors, producers, celebs, even big deal academics act this way. But at the end of the day, comic book writers/editors/artists produce a niche product that doesn't pull in the cash that film does, doesn't have the literary or artistic bona fides novels or other visual arts have, and is not as widely consumed as your typical pop song/soundcloud rapper turned hit. tl;dr I don't think they're big enough deals to think so much of themselves and behave so childishly in public. You know what they remind me of? I don't watch this show anymore, but in its first season Undercover Boss had one of the founders of Hooters go undercover at one of his restaurants. The manager of said restaurant had made himself a petty tyrant, and would make the waitresses fawn over him to get better shifts, and organized these contests where he'd make them drink hot sauce or humiliate themselves. I remember thinking, "this man isn't even a regional or general manager. He just oversees one store! Just a tiny bit of power and he's already abusing it that much?" It's actually the niche nature of comics that leads to editors and writers being colossal assholes. They think the audience and impact are small enough for them to get away with just about anything. They're wrong of course. They have more influence than they think, and the consequences of their actions on themselves are bigger than they're aware. But it's what they believe. Big fish in a small pond I've always been troubled by how utterly unprofessional comic book people are. Usually that level of dickishness comes with power and notoriety. I'd expect it from directors, producers, celebs, even big deal academics act this way. Hey buddy, Rob literally sold millions of comics, created comic book icons and continues to move copies 33 years in. If I bumped into him in the street I wouldn't know who he was. I wager 99.9999% of people on this planet wouldn't know who he was.

Goosebumps/r u afraid of the dark were similar enough. Tales from the crypt keeper was an animated version of that. TFTC is really the outlier there but I still included it bc.
I used to be terrified of the Thriller mv. So naturally my family would play it any time they wanted my geek ass to get up and away from the tv. After that I developped a liking for horror stuff.

I was scared of Ghosts as a child. I watched it again a couple years ago and it was still really creepy.

The Goosebumps show was horror comedy that sometimes leaned more into horror. Are You Afraid of the Dark (almost) always took itself seriously.
I really wanted to join the midnight society as a kid.
But of the three, I have to pick Goosebumps on the strength of how much I loved those books. And the 'reader beware, you choose the scare' ones? That was my everything in 4th grade.

Are You Afraid of the Dark was great. Goosebumps I rarely checked. Eerie was just there.
I enjoyed Tales From the Darkside more than Goosebumps or Eerie, less then AYAOTD. Outer Limits was good too, and I mean the 90s show.
I want to eventually watch both Outer Limits from the 90s and Tales From the Crypt. I know I haven't seen all of Outer Limits, and I've only seen a few eps of Crypt.
Semi-related, I finished Roar today. Last episode kinda sucked. Felt like it was meant to be a filler ep for the show, then got modified into a "see where their dynamic is when we leave them" send-off. I'm reasonably sure if the show had continued, Longinus would've broken free and returned, would've been trapped somewhere again, heroes would've dug him out cause having an immortal for some cause would be highly beneficial, etc.

When I google Rochester, Kent shows up before New York. You know that I know that you know I have no idea where that is. We both know that no American has any idea where that is. But you knew I meant the one in New York.
