Super Mario Bros. and Double Dragon are not just good video game adaptations, but two of the best films of all time.
While I'm at it with the correct opinions: Tank Girl remains the best comic book film.

Video game movie adaptations suck because writers try monopolize on the appeal of the game play than the actual storyline. Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Mortal Kombat (though I love those movies), Dead or Alive, Hitman, Tekken. There are those that just had a shitty script but mostly I think these adaptations fail due to studios not understanding they can't replicate the actual game on screen. They need to focus on the concept and script. Yep, this is pretty much the big thing. Instead of covering the themes, characters, etc, what ends up getting covered is the gameplay mechanics and trying to make gameplay mechanics fit into a new medium. We've also had the opposite problem, where developers try to turn games into movies. But past several years it seems like there's been a move away from that mistake, as companies see games as a bigger business than films. |

They need to focus on the concept and script. Another problem is that the source material often has bad writing LOL. Don't try to adapt games whose primary appeal is gameplay. Aside from Silen Hill (whose story was kind of botched for the films), we've yet to see a good video game story adapted for cinemas. Like, it's not hard to see why Tekken was a bad movie. The story in the games is incoherent af. |

"We amplify the voices of those who must struggle mightily to be heard." ok but those voices are apparently all straight white men, and whatever women and characters of color got too popular under the wire for Marvel to ignore. Not even going into voices of minority creators themselves getting stifled. |
