They try to frame it as playful in-crowd banter, but there's an undercurrent to its use where it's supposed to be understood as an insult under normal conditions. Sort of like how calling someone a piece of shit may be fine to friends but not to strangers. In this sense, using "autistic" the way they do frames it as something bad and to be ashamed of. Also, the terrible (read: white supremacist) parts of the chans thrive on making terrible things they say seem perfectly innocuous so that genuine use doesn't seem so bad. |
