As discussed in the genral discussion thread and inspired by how uninspired the last few years of X-Men stories have been, I suggest we take a look back at the mid to late 00's to early 10's era of the X-Men. Following a decade of unprecedented highs and lows and a redefining run by Grant Morrisson, the X-Men found themselves in a tight spot as Quesada, Brevoort and Bendis went out of their way to strip them of everything that made them special and favoring other franchises at their expense. Yet, in typical X-Men fashion, they made the best out of a shitty predicament and managed to give us some of the series best stories in these trying times.
The way I see it, that era is defined by the X-Men effort to reverse the events of M-Day. So it should start right after House of M and take us all the way to the conclusion of Avengers vs X-Men. Will probably include the consequences mini since it serves as a bookend to the events of AvX and of Gillen's Uncanny X-Men, arguably the flagship title of that era. Now the tricky part is while it has a clear end point, its beginning is less clear. House Of M happened towards the end of Claremont run on Uncanny X-Men and Milligan's on Adjectiveless X-Men and while both incorporate elements of the Decimation statu quo (O.N.E Sentinels, mutant refugees, depowered X-Men) they were still definitively doing their own thing while the events of Decimation were more directly adressed in various mini series and satellite books. I've compiled a list of pretty much every books I felt were relevant and then split them up in essential and optional and then in waves bc I feel if I just list them all everyone's gonna get discouraged. So without further ado, here's the first batch.

Wave 1: Decimation (2005-2006)Essential reads: Decimation: House of M: The Day After #1 New X-Men #20 - #23 X-Men: The 198 #1-5 Generation M #1-5 X-Factor #1-6 Optional reads : Sentinel Squad #1-5 X-Men #177-187 Uncanny X-Men #466-474 Son of M #1-6 X-Men: Deadly Genesis #1-6 Uncanny X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shiβar Empire (#475β486) EDIT: Here's the reading order I found: Decimation: House of M: The Day After #1 Sentinel Squad #1-5 New X-Men #20 X-Men #177-179 New X-Men #21-23 X-Men #180-181 Son of M #1-6 X-Men: The 198 #1-5 Generation M #1-5 X-Factor #1-6 I feel like the whole Vulcan thing can go here or there. It's a big story but it's also a shitty one and then it devolves into space stuff that don't really have anything to do with the X-Men aside from starring certain important characters. So make of that what you will. I considered including the two X-23 minis since she becomes a big part of the narrative later on. Idk what everyone else thinks. I put Madrox mini in at first but I'm not reading any more PAD then I absolutely have to. Thoughts?

Do we need to recap the events of House of M for anyone? Also unless anyone has any objection I'd declare this a Whedon free zone.

Sounds good.
Shouldn't the rest of New X-Men be in optional since almost everything in it is a consequence of HoM?

For some reason the notifications section never said I got tagged here. Anyway, I don't think I've read any of these (I read an issue of Kingbreaker and bits and pieces of that). The two ways I can join in are either if the issue gave Lorna a good and meaningful role, or I can get the issues for free somewhere. Otherwise, I'll have to bow out. Anything that involves Disney/Marvel getting my money (unless it's meaningful for Lorna and treats her well) is a no-go for me right now.

I don't know abt positive Lorna stuff, I like the character and I thought Milligan and even Brubaker did sum good stuff with her but Brubu put her back with Hbitch. She had cool moment in Blood of Apocalypse in her hospital gown but idk how u feel abt Popstilence.

She had cool moment in Blood of Apocalypse in her hospital gown but idk how u feel abt Popstilence. What I saw on the reading list of first post didn't look like it included the Pestilence time. I felt it was a good concept that was done okay, excluding the whole "Aryan savior Havok saves her" thing. Like many things of Lorna's past use, I'd like to see it explored more. Particularly that anti-Apocalypse cult that was just an excuse to force Lorna into space, but which really should've been at least a story arc focused on her dealing with them. U can find every thing online for free. I found at least some of it online, so it looks like I'll be able to join in. I skimmed Decimation: House of M: The Day After and it's... exactly as bad as what I expect from Claremont with Lorna. But I'll save saying more on that til I actually read all of it.

I was curious abt the anti Apocalypse stuff. Also the implication that Emma kept some of his blood. Everyone post Milligan dropped the ball with Apocalypse and I am mad abt it.
