I think the adjectiveless X-Men stuff follows directly from Claremont's one-shot.

Decimation: Generation-M #2 Cops werent portrayed badly enough so this gets negative points for me. The art is so expressive im in love. Did Zayn get inspired by Salie Floyd's writing when he wrote Satisfaction? StacyX was the best mutant of the 00s bar NONE. Did she pay her with coins ashfhfjsj cheap bitch Wow Jubilee sounding like an actual person and not an annoying cliché. Did ppl bitch abt sallie at the time? She's a flawed compromised female character did they call her a feminazi? Were there calls to boycott the books? Im surprised how good jenkins is with this considering prelude to schism was garbage that we probably shouldnt read but probably will. I really love the notion of mutants developping their own sports its a throwaway line but it opens up so many possibilities Quesada RUINED US. Is that a shot at Bill Jemas? Rmbr when tony was an alcoholic? That cliffhanger was predictable.

Decimation: Generation M #03 Wait why did she turn into an asshole all of a sudden? Sum more insight into Blob state of mind for u salartaI guess this issue was whatever. I like watching Sally come to terms with her grief as the world comes to term with its own. But for a depressive alcoholic she's too functional.

Decimation - Generation M #04 These covers r so pretty ok are they immonen? Sally collected his ass. Im getting war flashbacks to the bush era. This whole thing is reinvigorating my hate it burns scarlet red. Beak is a cutie. I love Marrow. So many d listers in interesting roles. Compare and contrast with Rosenberg run. All I rmbr abt Alchemist is he's a PAD creation. #delete. Wait thats a different character. Or two. His brother's a bitch. They really should have depowered Angel its not like he contributed anything worthwhile in the last 15 years.

Decimation: Generation M #05 What was even the deal with Angel? Ooookay the daughter was a mutant? But come on she was pal with jubilee and Dani she could have gotten Beast or Forge to come up with sthg. Moira would have never let this happen. This is making me anxious abt having children. I just realized the whole point is had she survived the next six months she probably would have been depowered. Why r u doing this to me. Ok she just spelled it out. Ok then my Angel question is answered. Ghoul is just a Morrisson reject. Not particularly interesting one. Ok thats it im shipping them. Hank pym's gf fzgzgahejfje plz bring this girl back. I'm this close to adding every sally floyd comics to the list or starting a new thread. This was everything tho in the end it was more her story then any of the depowered mutants. I would have preferred if everyone who cameoed to show up and save the day in the end, the X-Men served no purpose and were badly written.

I'm actually confused about what part of what I said would bring the "I'm not singling you out" response. Blob is self-confident, I don't see how his confidence is dependent on how he looks (or his powers), and from that I can't see how his body changing the way it did would immediately lead him to want to commit suicide. It seems like an extreme reaction to me for someone who I get the impression wouldn't care what anyone thought of how he looked. It's not so much Cyclops leading I had an issue with, but the combo of how he talks to his teammates and Emma mostly on the sidelines rather than leading too. He came across to me like he was talking down to a team full of experienced members. For the treatment of women part, I don't wanna tally up everything or go through it all. But there's like, Val Cooper being condescended to. The two X-Corp women being mocked in the streets. The uses of Bishop rescuing bug lady, Emma needing comfort, the female cop holding herself in sadness as a car rams into a building, etc. I'm not including the Jubilee segment because I see it as "canceling out" the Blob one as they're both isolated. Maybe if I saw a female mutant rush in and save a depowered male mutant or something, I'd have a different view. But overall it seems like it's mostly Men In Charge. I thought it was Magneto at first too but then I recognized the blue lightning bolt. i meant the whole post. I didnt want it to look like i was attacking u. I would want to kill myself if an overwhelming part of my identity thats shaped my entire life and dynamics with the rest of the world was stripped from me. Not to mention super strength and near invulnerability. Also wouldnt extremely rapid weight loss have an impact on his biology and even mental health? Storm, Sage, Courtney, Val Cooper, Psylocke and Feral and Thornn were not being damsels in distress. The whole point of the book was to show the characters reeling from the events of MDay tho so im rlly not sure how it would have gone any other way. Was that muslim excalibur girl unofficial first appearance btw? Oh I've been attacked like a bajillion times before, I didn't read it as one. On the one hand, you do raise several very good points about how a person might react when something integral to their identity is taken away from them. This is something I've pointed out multiple times before, about how Lorna almost let herself get killed by a Sentinel thinking it would reawaken her powers. On the other hand, I don't feel like Blob would be the type whose immediate response is "I gotta kill myself." Maybe I'm wrong and that fits him perfectly, but it's not how I imagine him at least. More importantly, the story doesn't really get across very well (at least to me) what his actual thought process was. Is it cause he lost his powers? Is it cause he's vain and hates the new way he looks? It doesn't give enough details to fully understand his POV. We get that info from a later book by a different writer (as you posted), but we don't get it in The Day After, which is where my criticism lies. On female characters, in sum I saw a disparity in how much women were depicted one way vs how much men were depicted another. Men tended to be in overall superior or isolated scenarios, women tended to be in supportive or subordinate scenarios. There were a few exceptions, but that was the general dynamic as I saw it. And that's all I'll say on it!

X-Men: The 198 #4- "Do you think someone could actually die of pleasure" yikes, that's a bad line - This comic uses Kitty well - She's fighting hard for Mammomax - Who knew befriending Mystique wouldn't even be in the top 3 of Val Cooper fuckups - Mr. M still boring - Johnny Dee seems poorly developed? Was he introduced before this mini? His whole deal seems to just be trolling Best page: X-Men: The 198 #5- Okay, so now Kitty wants everyone to return? After all her comparisons ot Nazi Germany??? - I miss Lockheed - lol so much for omega Iceman. Aaron probably would get a heart attack reading this - Emma jobbing again - Leech is an extremely underused characters when it comes to solving the problem of overpowered mutant adversaries - Is this the best Magma comic? - Farewell Mr. M, nobody will remember you - Johnny Dee: "When I figure out my character motivations, I'll be sure to tell you" - lmao that final page is Landian levels of amazing Best page: Arc conclusion: This type of storytelling really does feel like it came from an entirely different Marvel. It is a lot more invested in its backbench characters and much more likely to deal with more mature themes (something this era of Marvel did poorly more often than not, lbr). The art isn't all great, although I appreciate how much time the artist invests in Hair. There's a lot of continuity bits that will be enjoyed by the hardcore fan. The story itself though... isn't all that great. Mr. M sucks, Johnny sucks and some characters don't get nearly enough attention as they deserve. Something this book also suffers (or benefits) from, and which will define the X-books up to at least the move to San Francisco is its unrelenting, unending darkness. There is no glimmer of hope to be found here (silly ending aside) and while X-Men stories (allegedly?) are best when mutants have their back against the wall, this will become boring quickly when that's ALL they're doing.

X-Men #177- Ah, this was when Larroca's art was still somewhat tolerable, but you can see he's just about ready to become a shitty tracer - Polaris running around the field powerless is a comical sight - Hellion being slapped out of the sky made me Team Sentinel - The Leper Queen iirc was one of the more memorable human adversaries - Why did none of the people in the Sentinel open their fucking cockpit and explain the situation - Whoa it's Val Cooper! Shocking! - Anyway, I'm glad her history with Popo is acknowledged Best page: X-Men #178- I love how lazy Rogue's hair coloring is - lmao Havok LOSING IT over his treatment by Cyclops - This dude is either mad that Scott is treating him like a child or that he's treated like a soldier - They couldn't even get non-shitty people to handle this incredibly precarious sentinel job but I guess that makes it like ~the real world~ - The cutaways to setting up Apocalypse are annoying - The idea that the X-Men couldn't handle a bunch of humans with guns seems a little forced, especially since so few of the actual X-Men were actually depowered - Iceman gets his powers back, ruining that scene from House of M - I think it's been widely theorized (including by I think Filthy Mutie) that they quickly reversed the decision to depower Iceman and that's why this bizarrely quick turnaround was done despite Iceman's depowering being a huge moment like Wolverine regaining his memory Best page (there were no good pages): X-Men #179- Oh hey it's Outlaw - If I were reading in order, I would comment on how well characters introduced in one book segue into other books as if there's actually one grand universe rather than a series of standalone books that seem to be permanently at odds with one another - I'm glad that weirdly colored Iceman from last issue wasn't permanent - Havok: "You gotta admit, that racist murder robot has some cool tricks!" - So much running around in this arc and I'm not sure if Larroca meant for it to look so funny - A comment about freedom vs. security can only mean this comic came about during the age of Dubya - Mystique trying to meddle in Rogue's love life, entertaining as it may be, was the beginning of the end for her - Remember when Pulse was in The Gifted? - "Et moi"? Wouldn't it be "Moi, aussi"? I'm reasonably sure Babelfish in 2005/2006 did better translations considering regularly used it back then - This is all one giant metaphor for Iceman being a closet case - Both Havok and Iceman are at their most intolerable here - Would I sacrifice Popo if it meant Havok went with her? Yes. Yes, I would Best page: Arc conclusionThere are two camps when it comes to Milligan's X-Men run. Those who think it's one of the worst runs of the '00s and those who think it's a masterpiece and the only book that came close to matching Morrison. Me, I'm boring and think his run is utterly generic and this arc shows why. It's all competent and the voices aren't ooc (though god are Iceman and Havok at their most broski in this) but nothing really happens except characters incompetently running around. Iceman's depowering and repowering were pointless and Polaris hiding her depowering was also a bit silly (especially since everyone knew).

X-Men #180- It's crazy to me that Havok has never been killed off in his 50+ years of existence, especially since it would feed into Cyclops' angst - Iceman's coming out is the best thing that ever happened to his character - Popo is fucking nuts even when depowered - This space stuff is so boring I'm sure it was followed up from earlier Milligan stuff (Golgotha probably) but I do not care - Daap Best page: X-Men #181- Pooky sucks, but at least Milligan is embracing his goofiness - Daaplaris I can ship it - Milligan is the best Polaris writer and the art really sells her crazy - Nice twist on Leper Queen's backstory - lol Mystique - Frankly the X-Men deserve her considering they voted her in (before M-Day no less) - Havok really the worst - Daap no!!!!!! Best page: Arc conclusionDaap.

salarta Blob was a criminal with no proper education or real life experience and every meaningful relationship he had (mainly with his brotherhood teammates) hinged on the fact he was a mutant. So he lost the only asset that allowed him to make a living and every one of his friends probably turned/would turn his back on him when word got out of his condition. Fraction went and turned him into a big star movie producer or something (hello, Abridged Nappa reference) but that was totally ignored. Kaiolino Whats the iceman panel where he got depowered? Johnny Dee design was excellent and he's still in O*N*E custody hopefully Rosenberg reveals he's the reason everyone acting so weird. 198 was the only time I liked Magma in the modern era. Besides date night. I hate Larocca art at the time I think it's better now but nowhere XTreme level. Milligan's run literally reads like a parody and should have been out of continuity. Him and Austen are half the reson ppl call the XMen a soap opera. Idc. Havok 'died' during Mutant X which then gave us nurse Annie. Rmbr when Storm and Polaris voted for Mystique's inclusion bc the team needed more women lololol imagine that happening today. I love Roger Cruz since X-Man but why does he make Havok look like Ken from Street Fighter. Daap was Polaris best love interest.
